Case Notes
Hydrophone array 9 was lowered to −3,000 m on a mapping contract that ended early. The equipment was recovered; the contract was not renewed; the reasons for either are not in this file.
Forty-one minutes of ambient recording remain. Most is what you would expect from that depth — pressure, distant settling, the hydrophone’s own hum. The listed exceptions occur at 6:12, 19:47, and 33:03, and are not explained further here.
Playback in company is discouraged not because the recording is dangerous, but because more than one listener has reported hearing something different from what the others heard.
