The Institute of Karthur was founded in 2851 to study phenomena the sciences of the day refused to name. Its charter was a single sentence, now illegible in the original, and reconstructed only as: “to catalogue that which observes us.”

For a hundred and thirteen years the work continued at Site Theta, 2.3 kilometres beneath the ice, where the recovered materials were quietest. Personnel were rotated frequently. Records were kept in triplicate. Two copies of everything were burned on schedule; the third was not to exist, and does.

On the matter of the ██████ recovered in the ████ expedition, the committee found that █████████████ and recommended immediate ██████████. This was not done. It is not clear that it could have been done.

The Institute is now dissolved. Its holdings cannot be destroyed and can no longer be stored, and so they are offered — quietly, and without warranty — to those who ask. If you are reading this, you have already asked.
